European Parliament supports a European Statute for Associations
[10.03.11] Jerzy Buzek proclaims the support of the European Parliament for a statute for European associations during the plenary session in Strasbourg.

The announcement follows the signing of Written Declaration 84/2010 by a majority of MEPs that was submitted to the European Parliament through cross party support from Regina Bastos (EPP), Marc Tarabella (S&D), Pascal Canfin (Greens-EFA), Marie-Christine Vergiat (GUE-NGL) and Renate Weber (ALDE).

Association for Community Colleges (ACC) took an active part in the campaign for making the European Parliamentarians sign the Written Declaration, because a European Statute for Associations can become a major step forward for a European public sphere.

A thorough press release has been issued by the campaign coordinator EASEA.

A promising moment
"I beleive it was a quite crucial moment," says Liudmila Blinova of Vilnius. She took part on behalf of ACC in the dedicated group of European NGO campaigners. They went from door to door in Strasbourg through the EUP February plenary.

"And I think the MEPs behind the declaration were surprised with the huge support we gained very fast."

"It was both fun and promising, to be among very focused European NGOs."
