| ACC Tautskolas Eiropai ACC Latvia Committee / ACC Tautskolas Eiropai is founded in December, 1999.
ACC Latvia committee / ACC Tautskolas Eiropai main aims are not only to support actively the goals of ACC, but also to promote non-formal education in Latvia and the debate on the European issues among young people in Latvia.
There is a strong cooperation between the ACC Tautskolas Eiropai and the Rite folk high school in the South East part of Latvia, which until now has been the main venue for events organised by ACC Tautskolas Eiropai. In summer 2003 Rite folk high school will be re-organised, and ACC together with the Latvian local supporting group and the Danish-Swedish supporting group will become the partners of this NGO.
Main activities • There have been several ACC events where ACC Tautskolas Eiropai members have put in a lot of energy and efforts. One of those is The Campaign for Community Colleges / Working Camp in Rite, August 13-20, 2000. In the Working Camp around 30 young Europeans both helped to renovate Rite folk high school and worked on the Campaign for Community Colleges.
• Children English language camp “What is my World?” in Rite Folk high school, August 13–24, 2001. This summer camp was targeted for teenagers from Rite neighbourhood, therefore it included many topics interesting for that age group as well as the Night Fashion show, disco evening, competition “Show me what you can!”, night hikes, quizzes and so on.
• Children summer camp “Summer of Adventures in Rite” in Rite Folk high school, July 18–27, 2002.
• Apple campaign and Apple party, September 7, 2002. The main aim of the Apple Campaign was to find supporters for events organised in Rite folk high school. Each supporter can become a patron of an apple tree in Rite folk high school’s orchard. At the end of the Apple campaign Apple party was organised to gathered patrons, children who had participated in the summer camps, local people and staff.
• Seminar “Me in Europe” for pupils of Jekabpils district secondary schools in Rite Folk high school, October 23-27, 2002. As information on the European integration issues is mainly concentrated in the capital Riga and major regional centres but not in farther districts, the main aim of the seminar was to inform and promote debate on Latvia’s integration in the European Union among young people from secondary schools in Jekabpils district. During the seminar there were lectures on different European issues, visit to the border checkpoint in Nereta, simulation game on the European Parliament and many other activities.
• Children summer camp “Rite, Summer and Me” in Rite Folk high school, July 11–20, 2003. In this camp 22 local children participated to spend a part of their summer holidays learning English, new computer skills and art, and of course the spirit of a folk high school.
• Seminar "Rite. Latvia. Europe" in Rite Folk high school, October 30 - November 2, 2003. In this seminar 17 high school students mainly from Jekabpils district had a chance to learn about the opportunities that membership in the EU will give Latvia. Participants studied more carefully (including study visits) 4 cases - Jekabpils municipality, Jekabpils bread factory, farm "Kalna Dambrani" and Krustpils museum.
• Study visit in Riga, December 22, 2003. In this study visit 24 high school and university students mainly from Jekabpils district took part. All of them had participated in former seminars organised by the ACC Latvia. During this study visit organisations dealing with the EU issues in Latvia were visited (European Commission Delegation in Latvia, Parliament EU Information Center, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Movement Latvia, Club "The House" - Youth for the United Europe). Participants also met with the Danish Ambassador.
• Children summer camp "Diverse world" in Rite Folk high school, July 2 - 11, 2004. During this camp more than 20 children from Jekabpils district lernt more about English speaking countries (Australia, Canada, South Africa, the USA, Malta, India, Ireland, the UK) through having English language and computer classes, singning, dancing, arts and other fun activities.
• Exchange project "Youth Perspectives on Rural Development in Europe" in Rite folk high school and Riga, July 18 - 24, 2004. The project was financially supported by the EU Programme "Youth". There were Latvian, Dutch and Danish participants in the exchange. During the exchange the participants took part in study visits, had an opportunity to compare the role of youth in rural development issues and develop their experience in the co-operation with local municipalities. The aim of the project was to encourage cross-cultural development by the help of a Folk High School format. The participants also had the possibility to learn more about beautiful places in Latvia and to present one's own ethnic, regional and national traditions and values.
• Reunion of the participants of the last 5 children summer camps "Once in Rite", Rite Folk high school, August 27 - 29, 2004. In the reunion, where 17 children took part, the participants had English, arts, singing, cooking and sports activities as well as participated in a night hike and a hairstyle competition.
• Seminar for high school students "European Parliamant - what does it mean for me?", Rite Folk high school, October 28 - 31, 2004. In this seminar 24 high school students discussed the issues related to the European Parliament as well as visited Siauliai, Lithuania where they met the mayor of the city and discussed EU issues with University students.
• Bridging Community College, Rite Folk high school, June 21 - 28, 2005. In workshops and plenary sessions ideas for future European Community Colleges were presented, discussed and evolved. Some projects had very concrete problems to work with during the week, others started as an idea during the week and were developed through feedback and discussions with fellow participants.
